The Magpies have been without their captain since the beginning of February due to a hamstring injury before his return was further delayed after contracting mumps.
Guimaraes was initially regarded as a doubt for the visit of Bournemouth but Eddie Howe has revealed the midfielder is pushing to be involved this afternoon.
“Yes, there is a chance,” Howe said at his pre-match press conference on Friday. “We've seen him in training. He's pushing really, really hard to be back involved.
“I think the medical team are trying to hold him back. I say hold him back, but there's always that tug because the player wants desperately to play. I love that about Bruno. He always has done. He's desperate to help the team, especially in this moment.
“I'll make a decision based on what I see today in training, but there's a possibility.”
A change will be made in midfield regardless of Guimaraes’ availability, with Joelinton ruled out of the next two matches due to suspension.
That is an enforced change, but Howe is weighing up other changes across the team after last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
