Doug King's brilliant reaction to Coventry City's promotion sums up Sky Blues' achievement

Doug King has hailed Coventry City’s promotion to the Premier League, coming after 25 years and without the leg-up of parachute payments.

The Sky Blues owner watched on as his team came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers and secure the point they needed to ensure a top two finish this season.

The visitors fell behind to a Ryoya Morishita opener and had to wait until the 84th minute for Bobby Thomas to equalise and effectively put the Sky Blues back in the top flight.

Speaking after the game King expressed his pride in the achievement. “I guess we needed a point and we got one,” he told Sky Sports.

“We’ve been great all year, the boys did it the hard way. They 7,500-8,000 fans who came here have been starved of it for a long time and you can feel it.

“Getting out of this league is really difficult, really difficult – and we did it.

"No parachute, great recruitment, great coaching, great lads. We just got it together. We got a whole city together, we got a club together and we changed the direction of everything. I am super proud of everybody.”
