How Reece James has just convinced Cole Palmer to stay at Chelsea despite links to Man United

Reece James’ decision to sign a new long-term contract with Chelsea has left Cole Palmer confident the club are going in the direction he wants them to be going in.

Cole Palmer has not enjoyed his best season on a personal level, massively impacted by ongoing injury woes that he has tried to play through.

There have been reports that he is unhappy at Stamford Bridge, and is regularly linked with a return to Manchester to join boyhood club Manchester United.

However, Palmer himself has confirmed he is a fan of new manager Liam Rosenior, and believes the club will be a force again after having a pre-season working together.

He has also stated he has no plans to leave Chelsea, having been convinced they are going in the right direction by Reece James‘ decision to put pen to paper on a new deal.

He told The Guardian: “It’s something we’re working on together. We’re on the same page. We want to win now and I think if we add right in the summer we can compete for serious trophies next season. I don’t think we’re far off.

“If you sign the right players in the right positions and the right characters and profiles, I think we have more than enough quality to compete and be more consistent than we’ve shown over this season.

“I’ve got no plans to move from Chelsea. We’ve still got a lot to play for. We’ve got the FA Cup semi-final [against Leeds] and if we finish in a Champions League spot it puts us in a good position to sign players that we need. We spoke to the owners and they’re sure of the players that are gonna do it. Reece won’t sign a six-year contract if he’s not spoken to the owners and the directors.

“Me and Reece spoke a lot. About things we need, players we need to sign and how things need to be. He wouldn’t sign a new contract if he didn’t know what was going on.”

Key Chelsea players prepared to commit future to the club

At a time where Chelsea fans are concerned that Enzo Fernandez is not going to remain at the club for much longer, a number of other key players are starting to go the other way.

Moises Caicedo has signed a new deal, and Marc Cucurella improved his terms in secret earlier this season.

There is an expectation that Levi Colwill will be the next to sign a new deal, giving the Blues a fantastic core of players committing to the club.

They need to see that the Blues are willing to invest in the right areas around them though, putting pressure on the higher ups to deliver in the upcoming transfer window.
