Exclusive: Calm West Ham know the truth about fan favourite's sudden exit claims

West Ham were rocked by claims zero to hero fan favourite Konstantinos Mavropanos wants out – but are calm because they believe they know the truth about the situation.

Few West Ham players have enjoyed a reputational turnaround as stark as Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The redemption arc the big Greek is currently on at West Ham would be barely believable just a few months ago.

Mavropanos has gone from being seen as an error-prone liability to a Hammers cult hero for his performances and attitude in helping the West Ham survival revival.

Calm West Ham know what is behind Mavropanos exit claims

If he and his teammates can see it through, Mavropanos could set himself up as a future legend.

So reports that he wants out of the club left the Hammers reeling this week.

How much should West Ham demand for Mavropanos?

Especially as it came in the wake of claims West Ham were in talks to extend Mavropanos’ contract.

But Hammers News can reveal West Ham are calm because they know the truth about the Mavropanos exit claims.

It was a bolt out of the claret and blue when Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed the 28-year-old has his heart set on a fresh challenge this summer with Dortmund reportedly keen to sign Mavropanos.

Fans have been disheartened by the claim as Plettenberg has been somewhat in the know about West Ham’s transfer business in recent years.

But the Hammers are not panicking.

In fact, a senior West Ham source has told Hammers News that the club believes the claim is agent-led to boost Mavropanos’ contract talks.

The top Hammers spokesman also questioned the report given the journalist’s primary West Ham source, Tim Steidten, left the club over a year ago.

“We are calm about the Mavropanos speculation,” a top West Ham spokesman exclusively told Hammers News.

How many points are we getting then? 😬

Feel free to tell me where I'm going wrong 😂

“This is standard practice when players are discussing new contracts and terms and often used by intermediaries to force the club’s hand on certain things.

“Everyone at the club is delighted by Mavropanos’ turnaround, not least because he is such a popular guy in the dressing room and has found it tough to establish himself since signing.

“But we are calm and would question where the information is coming from given a key contact left the club some time ago now.”

When Steidten was sacked as Hammers technical director last January, Mavropanos was one of the many signings he made that was a stain on his reputation.

The 6ft 5in Greece star has been key in giving the Hammers hope of avoiding relegation.

Mavropanos is outdoing 20 top attacking Premier League stars in the process.

If he continues this form and keeps the Hammers in the top flight, that contract will take care of itself and will likely come with a pay rise to boot.
