Cole Palmer’s latest Manchester admission shouldn’t change United’s perspective amid links

Cole Palmer to Manchester United has seen a lot of rumours of late, but his latest admission about his future doesn’t change anything.

This season hasn’t reached the heights of last season for Cole Palmer, and with Man Utd higher in the table than Chelsea, a “homecoming” of sorts has been mooted.

Palmer is from Manchester and is a boyhood United fan, so the prospect of him playing at Old Trafford one day in a red jersey didn’t seem far-fetched.

The player has now broken the silence on his future, and it shouldn’t change United’s perspective amid all the transfer links.

Fill in the blank! How much is Cole Palmer worth?

Cole Palmer makes Manchester admission

When Palmer to Man Utd is talked about, all logic and reasoning go out of the window because the player is on a long-term contract at a direct PL rival.

Even if Palmer were to brutally force through a move, Chelsea would rinse United for a player who hasn’t shown the consistency to warrant that potential outlay.

The key detail above is if he were to force through a move, which he has shown no indication of doing.

In fact, his latest Manchester admission should actually put an end to these lazy rumours once and for all.

He said [via The Guardian]: “Everyone just talks. When I see it, I just laugh. Obviously, Manchester is my home. All my family is there, but I don’t miss it. Maybe I’ll miss it if I don’t go for three months or something. But then, when I get home, I think there’s nothing there for me anyway.

“I’ve got no plans to move from Chelsea. We’ve still got a lot to play for.”

Palmer’s admission changes nothing for Man Utd

Palmer committing his future to Chelsea is hardly a blow for United because, as far as the club are concerned, he was never going to be a sensible signing anyway.

Even if you write his form this season as a result of upheaval at Chelsea, his injury troubles can’t be ignored, nor can the fee Chelsea will ask for.

Furthermore, Bruno Fernandes plays in Palmer’s ideal position, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

If anything, Fernandes is ageing like fine wine, so it makes zero sense for the club to be after a luxury player from a direct rival in the middle of a poor season with an injury record.

Now that Palmer has also reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea, there is nothing left in this rumour. From United’s POV, there was nothing in this rumour from the very beginning, so nothing has changed.
