‘Frontrunners’ Manchester United have advantage over Chelsea to sign Sunderland player

Manchester United and Chelsea continue to chase Sunderland’s Noah Sadiki ahead of the summer transfer window.

Last December, Sport Witness relayed news of Manchester United and Chelsea’s keen interest in the midfielder.

The Club World Cup winners had made direct contact with Sunderland to find out the fee needed to sign him.

He’s a product of Anderlecht’s academy and spent two years at Royale Union Saint-Gilloise before joining Sunderland in July 2025.

Régis Le Bris has regularly utilised the Belgium-born DR Congo international this season and he’s played 29 matches so far. He missed a few matches for close a month due to his involvement at AFCON.

His Premier League stats are as follows:

Appearances: 27

Starts: 27

Total minutes: 2,385

Minutes per game: 88

Interceptions per game: 1.1

Tackles per game: 1.5

Possession won (final third): 0.4

Ball recovered per game: 3.3

Clearances per game: 1.4

Blocked shots per game: 0.4

PL duo in lead for Sunderland star

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri had earlier covered Manchester United and Chelsea interest in December.

He now took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report Liam Rosenior’s side have held new talks with Noah Sadiki’s agent to renew their interest. Since then, Chelsea are in continuous discussions, likely with his agent, over a potential summer move.

The 21-year-old remains ‘well positioned’ in the Club World Cup winners’ target list. In another post on X, he provides more updates on Manchester United.

Tavolieri claims the Stamford Bridge club and the Red Devils are ‘currently frontrunners’ to sign the Sunderland star.

Manchester United are now third in the table, seven points ahead of sixth placed Chelsea, and face the Blues at Stamford Bridge later today.

Michael Carrick’s side are in a good position to qualify for the Champions League, and this gives them an ‘advantage’ in the battle to sign the player. As things stand, Sadiki hasn’t decided and the sporting aspect will play a key role in his decision.

Contract, value and agent info

Noah Sadiki has a contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €30m, the highest of his career so far.

In June 2024, his value was €4m and has been on the rise since then. The time left on his contract also put Sunderland in a comfortable position for potential negotiations.

Manchester United and Chelsea may have to spend more than €30m to convince Régis Le Bris’ side to sell the player.
