Footmercato: Milan have upper hand as Juventus challenge for €30m Marseille defender

**Despite it seeming like AC Milan have already made one defensive signing for the summer, they are not done in the region.**

It is clear that Massimiliano Allegri wants more defensive cover in his team next season. Ultimately, four senior options are not enough, especially if he wants to continue in a back-three system for the 2026-27 campaign.

Perhaps one of those options could leave, too. So, the Italian wants to cover his bases.

Mario Gila already seems [**on the verge of wearing the Rossoneri shirt**](https://sempremilan.com/longo-gila-almost-done-deal-milan) next season with multiple reports in the past 24 hours stating that things are looking good for his chances. However, he will not be the only addition.

As French outlet Footmercato writes, the Diavolo are also involved in the race to sign Argentine defender Leo Balerdi. The centre back is in high demand and a move to Italy is very possible in the next few months.

According to the report, which is relayed by [TuttoJuve](https://www.tuttojuve.com/calciomercato/balerdi-ha-mercato-in-italia-il-marsiglia-chiede-30-milioni-di-euro-774413), he would be most sought by Juventus and Milan. Yet, it seems like there may be an upper hand already present in favour of the Milanese outfit.

Marseille are asking for €30 million, which both clubs deem to be a little high. But the Bianconeri would only make a ‘concrete offer’ if his price was dropped. Whether Allegri’s side would cough up €30m is not referenced, but it may be more likely.
