Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has given his verdict on victory at Manchester United and Saturday’s visit of Wolves.
Ethan Ampadu has delivered a beaming verdict of Leeds United’s victory at Manchester United with a personal career declaration and rivals warning.
Whites captain Ampadu led Leeds into battle in Monday night’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford in which Daniel Farke’s men recorded the club’s first league win at the ground since 1981 through a brilliant 2-1 success.
The victory saw Leeds boot six points clear of the drop zone and Farke’s side now have the chance to extend the gap to nine points with victory against Saturday afternoon’s visitors Wolves who are bottom of the table and on the cusp of relegation being confirmed.
Ampadu, though, has fired a warning about what will be needed to beat a capable Wolves side, the skipper wary that Rob Edwards’ men will be particularly keen to bounce back in style after last Friday night’s 4-0 loss at West Ham which ended a good recent run of results.
But Ampadu naturally dedicated part of his captain’s column in Saturday’s matchday programme to Monday night’s win at Old Trafford where the captain says his men should have been four or five up at the interval as part of a particularly brilliant first half display.
The captain also saluted the “brilliant” away end and said Monday’s victory will be one to look back and savour in many years’ time when he hangs up his boots.
Writing in his captain’s column, Ampadu put: “Last Monday, it was a brilliant feeling to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. The away end was unbelievable and the moments we had at the end of the game will be what I no doubt look back on and remember forever at the end of my career in many years’ time.
“We know what beating them means to you and I thought we thoroughly deserved it. We should have been four or five at half-time. It was a massive three points for us.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s visit of Wolves, Ampadu warned: “Today, it is on us to capitalise and try to make it back-to-back wins to help us achieve our goal of staying in the Premier League.
“We know, though, that we have another really task in front of us. Wolves have shown over the last two months that they are capable of beating teams in this league and will be itching to bounce back from their defeat last weekend, so we again need to bet at our very best.”
