How things have changed. Just six months ago West Ham were riven by dressing room strife, want-away players and a manager who couldn’t buy a win. Fortunately the club decided to bet the bullet and remove Graham Potter from post, grab the opportunity presented by Nuno’s sacking to appoint a manager who wouldn’t have been available two months before or later – and the turnaround has been encouraging to say the least.

Six months ago West Ham’s dressing room was divided – want away players and disunity reigned
West Ham now stand about a 50/50 chance of escaping the drop: Having been something like 16 points behind Tottenham at one stage, the Hammers now have a fragile two point lead and it is the north London side who have huge issues, as goal.com reports today:
“De Zerbi faces relegation reality
Tottenham head coach De Zerbi has admitted that his side is currently overwhelmed by internal issues as they battle to stay in the Premier League. Languishing in the bottom three, Spurs remain the only top-flight team without a win in 2026, a run that has left them two points adrift of safety with just six games remaining.”
Contrasting completely with West Ham’s fully fit side, dressing room harmony and unity of purpose evident from the smiles on the training ground and the elation released by putting four past Wolves last week.

Tottenham’s third boss of this season knows he’s in a fight:
“De Zerbi is now under pressure as they must win this weekend when they face his former club, Brighton. Following a listless 1-0 defeat to Sunderland in his debut match, the Italian must find a way to navigate a squad currently plagued by injuries to key personnel like Cristian Romero”
In a season of tight margins, Nuno’s extra six months in post and the fighting spirit he has managed to impart into his West Ham squad may well just tip the scales in West Ham’s favour.
