Tarik Muharemovic
Aston Villa and Tottenham have been linked with Tarik Muharemovic in recent days. The two clubs can get a discount for the centre-back in the summer.
The centre-back has been one of the best defenders in Serie A this season. He has shown composure on the ball and uses his physical abilities exceptionally to win it back too.
Speculation has only increased since Muharemovic put in a stellar performance for Bosnia against Italy in the World Cup playoffs.
Sport Witness covered interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham, with TuttoSport mentioning a €30m price tag. Bournemouth were believed to have made an attempt in January but despite their failure, England is seen as a possible destination for the defender.
Another suitor is Inter Milan, who were showing hesitation at making in-roads over a deal.
Price lower than expected
Corriere dello Sport report Muharemovic is at the top of Inter’s shortlist for the summer. The Nerazzurri will lose Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi and are keen on adding younger players to their backline.
A move is now underway, with contact made with Sassuolo and the Bosnian’s entourage. Muharemovic would be interested but there is lingering threat from Juventus, who have a sell-on clause in the player’s current deal.
This can help them sign him for a cheaper fee than Inter, Tottenham or Aston Villa.
Curiously enough, the newspaper speak of a ‘base figure of €25m’ with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta now trying to capitalise on that.
The Nerazzurri’s intention is to close a deal as soon as possible, as they attempt to beat competition from Juve and the Premier League.
Our take: Long way to go for deal
While Inter are trying hard, Sassuolo will do everything to create an auction for Muharemovic. They would want to avoid the prospect of him moving back to Juventus and will attempt to attract as many suitors as possible.
This should give an opportunity to Tottenham and Aston Villa, who will have a higher spending capacity.
Inter will not spend big unless they sell Alessandro Bastoni to Barcelona. Noise around that has reduced over the last week, which means they may not have a major budget for Muharemovic.
That is why any deal for the 23-year-old will likely be complex. Sassuolo will probably keep playing games, as they want a big capital gain on the €3m they spent on him in 2025.
