Bruno Guimaraes returns - major boost for Newcastle United vs Bournemouth

Bruno Guimaraes returns to Newcastle United action today after not featuring since the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Bruno Guimaraes is in the matchday squad for Newcastle United and was all smiles as he made his way into St James’ Park.

The Brazilian has not featured since the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in February. Guimaraes - who has nine Premier League goals this season - completed the first leg of his recovery in Brazil.

He returned to Tyneside at the back end of last month and, until earlier this week, had been training alone. While recovering from a hamstring problem, Guimaraes’ hit a further setback by contracting mumps.

This delayed the midfielder’s return but Howe confirmed to reporters at his pre-match press conference that he had a chance this weekend. The Toon boss said: “Yes, there is a chance. We've seen him in training. He's pushing really, really hard to be back involved.

“I think the medical team are trying to hold him back. I say hold him back, but there's always that tug because the player wants desperately to play.

“I love that about Bruno. He always has done. He's desperate to help the team, especially in this moment, so I'll make a decision based on what I see today in training, but there's a possibility.”

The skipper received a warm reception as he entered the stadium. Newcastle - sitting 14th in the Premier League - will look to their talisman to salvage a stuttering season.

At the time of writing, it is uncertain whether Guimaraes will start for the Magpies. Stay tuned to The Gazette to for Newcastle coverage before, during and after the clash with Bournemouth.
