Anthony Gordon missing as Eddie Howe makes surprise calls for Bournemouth game

The England international has picked up a hip issue in the build-up to today's game, which means he does not feature in the squad.

His absence comes at the end of the week that has seen him heavily linked with Bayern Munich amid suggestions that he wants to investigate the possibility of leaving Tyneside this summer.

At his pre-match press conference yesterday, Eddie Howe answered questions over Gordon's future by insisting that he would only select players who are "100 per cent committed" to the club.

The suggestion at St James' Park is that Gordon's hip problem is not particularly serious, with the England international expected to be able to return before the end of the season.

Gordon is one of three Newcastle players dropping out of the side that started last weekend's defeat at Crystal Palace. Joelinton misses out through suspension, with Jacob Murphy dropping down to the bench, having captained the Newcastle team at Selhurst Park.

Jacob Ramsey returns to the Newcastle midfield, playing alongside Sandro Tonali and Lewis Miley.

Anthony Elanga replaces Murphy on the right-hand side, with Harvey Barnes starting on the left flank in Gordon's absence.

Bruno Guimaraes is back in the Newcastle squad after missing the last 12 games with a hamstring injury, with the Brazilian midfielder named on the substitutes' bench.
