West Ham Veteran Could Join Elite Club If He Plays Once Again

**Łukasz Fabiański turns 41 today.**

The Poland native has been at West Ham since 2018 and has been one of the Hammers’ best goalkeepers of the Premier League era. Fabiański was released by the club last summer but was then offered a one-year contract early in the 2025/26 season.

The former Arsenal and Swansea man has made 216 appearances in all competitions for the Irons, but is yet to feature since his return.

Fabiański’s last game for West Ham was against Ipswich Town on the final day of last season. That appearance made him the fourth-oldest player ever to play for the Irons, at 40 years and 37 days old.

Only two 41-year-olds have ever played for the Hammers – Charlie Bicknell against Leicester City in 1947, and Hammers legend Billy Bonds.

On April 20, 1988, at 41 years and 226 days old, Bonds became the oldest player ever to play for the Irons when he featured against Southampton in a First Division encounter on the south coast.

If Fabiański makes another competitive appearance for the Irons, he will become the third player over 41 to appear for the Hammers.

But the goalkeeper’s future is currently uncertain, and it is not known if he will be given another contract in the summer. Fabiański has been primarily used as a training goalkeeper this season.

Even in FA Cup games this season, Fabiański has not been included in the matchday squad, with academy player Finlay Herrick the preferred substitute goalkeeper. The 20-year-old even made a dramatic cameo in the Irons’ penalty shootout loss to Leeds in the quarter-finals.

Although he looks sharp in training, it seems unlikely that Nuno Espírito Santo has any immediate plans for the goalkeeper. Even if the Irons are relegated to the Championship, the Hammers may choose to hold on to Mads Hermansen and promote Herrick to a deputising role.

A coaching role is not completely out of the question for Fabiański, but given the fact that the goalkeeping coach role is already filled, he may find himself released once again.

Given West Ham’s current situation, everything is difficult to predict. It is unlikely that Fabiański will play for the Hammers again, but for the moment, he still has an important role to play for West Ham – and even when all is said and done, he will be an excellent ambassador for the Irons.

Have a great day, Fab.
