Is Ederson really going to Arsenal?

As per reports, The Athletic’s well known journalist David Ornstein has reported that the Gunners are really interested to sign Ederson. Ederson would be a great addition to a team which aims to stabilize their midfield. Ornstein has stated a transfer intent from Arsenal. The London club is very likely to go for a midfielder in the summer. They have Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi in that position. Ederson’s name has been discussed as a target by Arsenal hierarchy.

In a Question and Answer session presented on The Athletic, the journalist faced some questions regarding the transfers. One question was whether the clubs would like to wrap up deals before hand or they would wait until the World Cup ends in July. To that he replied that Ederson is most likely to leave Atalanta in the summer. Next season, he will enter the last year in his contract. Currently, he does not seem to extend his current deal.

Ederson’s agent is trying hard to arrange a suitable transfer move for him in the summer. So that his present team can earn some profit without letting him go for free. His suitors including the Gunners, believe that is price is about £35 million. But Atalanta has set a valuation of £44 million for the Brazilian.

Can he be a good fit for Arsenal?

The 26-year-old has delivered performances consistently for the last 3-4 years. Manchester United along with Arsenal are interested in him. His contract is ending in June 2027. Atalanta are believed to be in a state of urgency to sell him. Therefore, Ederson is free to seek a move away from Atalanta and play for a big club.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has been found to prefer Casemiro and Fabinho in that defensive midfield role. It is very unlikely for him to change his selected names. If Ederson doesn’t get the chance to play in the World Cup, his price will not move up.

Moreover, inclusion of Ederson in the squad can be very good for Arsenal. The Gunners may use him as an upgrade over Christian Norgaard. The Danish midfielder has got limited gametime under manager Mikel Arteta in Premier League. But the Brazilian desires to play for Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
