The winter signing has failed to live up to the lofty expectations at Tottenham after joining from Atletico Madrid in January.
Tottenham Hotspur are already preparing for every situation this season. They are currently in the bottom three of the table, reeling with form and fitness.
With the Lilywhites winless in the Premier League since December, Roberto De Zerbi has an incredibly tough task ahead of him to turn things around. Relegation from the top-flight would lead to a mass exodus of players, with senior members of the squad such as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario already linked with an exit. Spurs will be determined to keep hold of as many key players, but only a handful of them would be ready to spend a season in the Championship. And Conor Gallagher is one of them.
Indeed, recent reports suggest Conor Gallagher is among three players ready to stay put at Tottenham, even if they get relegated. The other two are James Maddison and Archie Gray. The trio remain fully committed to the Lilywhites’ fight for survival this season, but even in the event of relegation, they have no wish to leave the club.
Newcastle United preparing move for Conor Gallagher
However, in an exclusive report from SportsBoom, Newcastle United are planning a summer swoop for Gallagher. The central midfielder has been on the Magpies’ radar before, and they are looking to revive their interest in him.
One of Thomas Frank’s final signings at the club before he was sacked, Gallagher has struggled to make an impact since his mid-season £40m move from Atletico Madrid. In the wake of Rodrigo Bentancur’s hamstring injury, Spurs acted quickly and beat Aston Villa to the central midfielder’s signing. The England international hasn’t really pulled up trees in a Spurs shirt, failing to contribute massively at both ends of the pitch thus far.
Yet, that hasn’t done much harm to the 26-year-old’s stock. Newcastle United are set to rebuild their squad after an underwhelming campaign. With the likes of Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento all set to depart St James’ Park, the Newcastle board are busy looking for fresh faces.
Gallagher has been identified as one of the players they would like to bring to the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. The Magpies are ready to take a gamble on him, despite the combative midfielder’s poor start to life in North London. While the Englishman is ready to stay put, it is worth noting that he is on significant wages and that could make him a prime candidate to be moved on, as Tottenham seek to revamp their squad come the end of the campaign.
In a separate report, De Zerbi is ready to cut losses on the former Chelsea star, as he eyes specific profiles in the middle of the park. Recouping anywhere near the £40 million paid in January will seemingly become easy if Newcastle accelerate their interest in Gallagher.
