Alejandro Garnacho puts his poor Chelsea form down to three 'mitigating circumstances'

Adapting to life at a new club is never a quick fix, and Alejandro Garnacho is finding out just how difficult that transition can be at Chelsea.

Alejandro Garnacho has had a tough debut season at Chelsea, with many feeling as if his £40 million move from Manchester United was a mistake.

After arriving late in the summer window without a full pre-season, the Argentine winger has struggled to find the consistent rhythm that made him a standout at times at Old Trafford.

Statistically, it has been a lean year in the Premier League, with Garnacho finding the net only once in the top flight, a strike against Sunderland back in October. He has shown flashes of quality in cup competitions, but still finds himself in and out of the starting lineup under head coach Liam Rosenior.

Alejandro Garnacho feels he’s not had a fair chance at Chelsea

In a report from the Daily Mail, it is stated that Garnacho believes there are some mitigating circumstances for his faltering form.

He arrived later than everyone else, with no pre-season, and it takes time to adapt to a new club and city.

Despite this, Garnacho has already said he feels happy at Chelsea and there are improvements the club can make, showing no signs of wanting to leave.

Who are we choosing? Liam Rosenior? Or one of these TWO 👀

Alejandro Garnacho’s claim disproved

While Alejandro Garnacho’s claims of mitigating circumstances might sound like excuses, there are some aspects of truth. Missing a full pre-season is a significant disadvantage; those six weeks are when players build the aerobic base and cohesion with teammates.

For a player whose game relies on explosive pace and 1v1 dribbling, even a five percent drop in fitness can make the difference between beating a defender and being dispossessed.

However, other aspects that cannot be justified include Garnacho’s decision-making, which often proves to be his downfall. When you look at some of his performances, it’s been a lack of quality too.
