Bruno Fernandes says Man Utd teammate 'transforms himself' after what he saw vs Chelsea

Ayden Heaven was the only natural centre-back in Manchester United’s starting XI to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Because of the defensive crisis at Manchester United, including a new injury to Leny Yoro this week, Ayden Heaven got his first start under Michael Carrick.

Heaven put on a brilliant defensive display as United beat Chelsea 1-0 in the capital to continue their Champions League qualification push.

Once again, it was Bruno Fernandes who stole the show with another assist to set up Matheus Cunha’s winning goal, but United’s captain was full of praise for the impact that Heaven had in defence.

Bruno Fernandes piles praise on Ayden Heaven vs Chelsea

Ahead of the Chelsea match, Carrick labelled Heaven as the ‘future’ of United’s defence based on what he has seen from the 19-year-old at Carrington.

Earlier this season, Heaven strung together a run of strong performances under Ruben Amorim, and he picked up where he left off when given an opportunity against Chelsea.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the full-time whistle, Fernandes said: “Great performance from everyone, especially the five at the back including Senne (Lammens).

“Ayden, amazing again. Young kid. He transforms himself when he comes on the pitch. But then I think it’s also from the guys in the front who put a big shift in.”

The numbers behind Ayden Heaven’s masterclass vs Chelsea

Heaven was easily one of United’s biggest winners against Chelsea due to his impact in the back line.

With United short of defensive options, Carrick turned to the £1m signing and Heaven answered his call brilliantly.

As per SofaScore, Heaven was the highest-rated player on the pitch with a score of 7.9 out of 10.
