Marcus Tavernier’s first half opener was cancelled out by Will Osula in the second period, but Adrien Truffert’s first goal for the club with five minutes to play earned Bournemouth all three points.

The Daily Echo rates the Cherries in victory at St James’ Park.
Djordje Petrovic: 7
A couple of top saves from the Serbian, first to keep out a potential Alex Scott own goal and then a good stop with his legs to deny Bruno Guimaraes in the dying moments. A solid all-round performance.
Adrien Truffert: 9
The left back was superb and deservedly got his goal. He has been so good all season for the Cherries and he was just my man of the match.

Marcos Senesi: 7
Bournemouth were good defensively and Senesi was, as ever, a big part of that. The Argentine was wrong footed by Osula for the Magpies’ goal, though.
James Hill: 8
Hill continued his fine form at the back alongside Senesi, with Osula kept quiet by the pair other than for his goal.
Alex Jimenez: 8
Jimenez was a real livewire on the right, and was a particular threat reading the play, picking off passes and charging forward. It was a good battle with Harvey Barnes which Jimenez came out on top of.

Alex Scott: 8
The Englishman was brilliant, again. He is full of confidence and form, and he and Christie had control of the midfield when up against Sandro Tonali.
Ryan Christie: 7
The Scot looks to be back to the form that saw him play such a central role last term, and he seems to be hitting his straps right at the right time.
Marcus Tavernier: 9
There was not much to separate Tavernier and Truffert in my mind for man of the match. The English forward was brilliant, full of energy in the press and a well taken goal from close range, getting in just the right position to touch home.
Junior Kroupi: 6
Kroupi didn’t have as much of an impact as last weekend in the number ten role but was decent. He had a couple of good moments with the ball but perhaps didn’t influence the game as much as he would have liked before he was replaced.

Rayan: 7
Similar to Kroupi, the Brazilian didn’t have lots of influence on the game. I’d like to see him take on his man more often – he provided an assist for Tavernier by doing just that in the first half.
Evanilson: 7
The Brazilian, as usual, was excellent in his all-round game. But while he is such a key part of the way the team plays, his finishing is sometimes lacking, and he missed a very good chance to make it 2-0 in the first half. He did well to rise and meet Tavernier’s cross for Truffert’s winner, though, for a second assist in as many games.
