Manchester United secured a huge 1-0 win against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening. Matheus Cunha fired United into the lead before half-time and the Reds defended bravely in the second half.
Michael Carrick wanted to see a response from his side after suffering a defeat against Leeds earlier in the week and they secured an important three points at Stamford Bridge, even with a depleted backline.

Here are the moments you might have missed at Stamford Bridge:
The chat with Fernandes
Just two minutes before Cunha opened the scoring, there was a stoppage in play as Wesley Fofana received treatment for an injury. Carrick used the break to hold a tactical discussion with Fernandes.
Carrick began by passing on his instructions and it looked as if he gave Fernandes the opportunity to share his input. The press box is just yards away from the away dug-out at Stamford Bridge, so it was easy to tell it was a flowing conversation, not one-way traffic.
Benjamin Sesko was also called over by Carrick after he finished talking with Fernandes, who burst down the wing shortly after play resumed to provide a wonderful cross into the box for Cunha's goal.
Sesko had a hand in the goal by attracting the attention of Fofana with a dummy run. Whatever Carrick said during the stoppage seemed to work, and he looked delighted as his backroom staff celebrated.
Boost for Heaven
Ayden Heaven made his first start for Carrick on Saturday. The young defender was drafted into a makeshift backline due to injuries and suspensions, and he improved as the game progressed following a shaky start.
Heaven had made just two starts in 2026 before getting the call-up at Stamford Bridge, so some rust was expected. It was perhaps no surprise to see him taking on an energy gel in the 65th minute.
Handing out energy gels during games is common in pre-season, but it's rare in the middle of the campaign because players are at full fitness. Heaven needed the extra boost and Carrick gave him a pat on the back.
Mount enjoyed his return
Mason Mount smiled as he was heckled during his warm-up. A Chelsea fan shouted "w*****" when he was introduced with 10 minutes remaining, and boos rang out around the ground he once called home.
Cunha laughed to himself as he came off for Mount and he tapped on his chest as if to say 'listen to that, go and show them what can you can do'. Mount had lost on both of his previous visits to Stamford Bridge with United, so it was not surprising to see him revel in the victory after the final whistle.
There was a moment during added time when Mount clashed with Moises Caicedo and received a yellow card. Mount laughed it off. He finally had the last laugh at his former club with United.
Carrick wanted more
Carrick is popular in the dressing room. It helps that he was a player as recently as 2018, which makes him relatable, but he can still be tough when he needs to be, as he demonstrated by frantically waving his arms to demand three players to sprint back quicker after Bryan Mbeumo lost the ball.
Mbeumo picked the wrong pass in the first half as United counter-attacked. Mbeumo, Cunha and Dalot did not react quickly enough to track back as Chelsea burst forward, which angered Carrick on the touchline.
Carrick jumped off his seat and shouted at the trio to support the defensive effort. He would have been particularly concerned with Dalot, who was caught well out of position when Chelsea gained possession.
No love lost
"Who's that t*** from Argentina?" was aired from the away section before the game. Alejandro Garnacho recently admitted he made mistakes at United, but he remains a hugely unpopular figure among United supporters.
Those chants got louder and louder when Garnacho was introduced for the injured Estevao just 10 minutes into the game. Garnacho was booed by United fans and cheered by Chelsea supporters as he came on.
Garnacho failed to latch on to a dink into the box immediately after his introduction, which prompted loud sarcastic cheers. And then the anti-Garnacho chant was aired again when he lost a duel with Diogo Dalot.
"Maybe yes," Garnacho said about whether the circumstances around his United exit hurt him. The youngster may have been hurt again by the hostile reception he received from United's travelling fans.
Thwaites' route to London
There were 21 players in United's travelling squad on Friday afternoon, including four goalkeepers, but Altay Bayindir was the only back-up shot-stopper named on the bench at Stamford Bridge, which opened the door for youngster Jim Thwaites to be included in his first senior squad.
Thwaites played 120 minutes for the Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup semi-final on Friday, so nobody expected him to arrive at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Fans would have noticed Thwaites' name in the squad for the first time, but they wouldn't have known the youngster travelled down to the capital on the day of the game with first-team coach Travis Binnion.
Binnion was spotted in the directors' box at Old Trafford to watch the U18s in action, and he travelled with Thwaites to Stamford Bridge. Thwaites was also recently given the chance to train in Ireland with the first team.
