Arsenal are one of several clubs interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

Writing about the Gunners’ summer plans as part of a Q&A session, Ornstein named the Brazilian as a possible option ahead of the next transfer window.

Ederson is out of contract at the end of next season, and he is widely expected to be sold by Atalanta this summer.

Ornstein claims that interested clubs, including Mikel Arteta‘s side, value the player at around €40m (£35m).

However, despite the fact that Ederson is closing in on the final twelve months of his current deal, Atalanta are still hoping to get closer to €50m (£43.5m).

Ederson has been heavily linked with other Premier League clubs

Manchester United have a longstanding interest in the 26-year-old, while Liverpool have also had contact with the player’s agent in past transfer windows.

Ederson’s ability to cover the ground and cut out danger with tackles and interceptions makes him a very useful player to have in your squad, and it’s not a surprise that Arsenal are considering a move for him if he is on the market for a reasonable price.

Arsenal need more cover for Rice

Declan Rice has had to play through the pain barrier on more than one occasion this season, so bringing in a rotation option, who could take some of the strain off him and Martin Zubimendi, makes a lot of sense.

Christian Norgaard was supposed to fill that role, but he has been used sparingly in the Premier League and Champions League by Arteta, and it seems likely that he will leave the Emirates over the coming months.

Ederson appears to be among the targets who could be brought in to replace Norgaard, so we shall see how this transfer story develops.
