The agent of reported Man City transfer target Morten Hjulmand says he is hopeful of finding an “agreement” with Sporting Lisbon so the player can leave the club.

Pep Guardiola’s side, Manchester United and Juventus are among the teams who are said to be keen on recruiting the Denmark international.

Asked whether he has reached an understanding with Sporting about a transfer this summer, Hjulmand’s representative Ivan Marko Benes said:

“I cannot comment on any agreement. It is in Sporting’s hands. They are good people. I am sure that at some point we will reach an agreement.”

Sporting won’t hold out for Hjulmand’s release clause

It was reported earlier this week that the Liga Portugal champions have agreed to sell the midfielder for below his €80m (£70m) buyout fee.

An offer of around €40m (£35m) to €50m (£43.5m) could be considered by Sporting, which would make a sale more likely during the summer transfer window.

Is he a top target for Man City?

Hjulmand has been linked with a switch to the Etihad on and off over the last couple of years, but there have never been any reliable sources in the UK suggesting he is a primary option for Director of Football Hugo Viana.

The fact that Viana signed Hjulmand for Sporting from Lecce seems to be the main reason behind the speculation that he could join City.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali appear to be higher up the list of targets, but you can’t completely rule out a move for someone like Hjulmand, especially if the club are considering cheaper alternatives to strengthen the midfield.
