Alejandro Garnacho had a night to forget as Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by his former club, Manchester United, at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
The 21-year-old Argentine produced an ineffective display against the Red Devils, who took another huge step towards securing Champions League qualification for next season thanks to Matheus Cunha’s 43rd-minute goal.
Chelsea fans have slammed Garnacho, who lost possession on 15 occasions and registered an xA of just 0.06. The young winger received a hostile reception from the United supporters who once proudly chanted his name and, to make matters worse, he’s also been mocked on social media by some of his former Man Utd teammates.

Meanwhile, new footage recorded from the stands has emerged which appears to confirm there’s no love lost between United’s players and Garnacho.
Man Utd players appeared to completely ignore Garnacho as they walked off the pitch and down the Stamford Bridge tunnel. Watch the clip below:
“Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Mbeumo, Heaven, Noussair Mazraoui, and Diogo Dalot all walked past Garnacho,” one fan commented. “None of the Manchester United players wanted to greet or shake hands with him. He’s seen as a betrayer and that’s how they treated him.”
Another wrote: “He left Manchester United chasing UCL football, believing he was ready for that level. Tonight, United may have just dented his and his team’s chances of getting there next season. Not a single United player gave him the hand at the end. Cold.”

Alejandro Garnacho in action for Manchester United
Garnacho was once seen as Manchester United’s brightest prospect; a youngster with the potential to become one of the world’s best players.
However, things turned sour for Garnacho under Ruben Amorim. It was widely reported in May 2025, several months before his £40 million move to Chelsea, that Garnacho was told by Amorim in front of the entire United squad: "You better pray that you can find a club to sign you”.
It was also reported last September that several senior Man Utd players - namely Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire - stepped in to urge Garnacho to ‘start thinking of the team instead of just himself’.
The acrimonious manner of Garnacho’s Old Trafford exit may explain the cold response from his former teammates on Saturday. It seems bridges may have been burned prior to his departure.
While Garnacho has shown flashes of his quality during his first season at Chelsea, his debut campaign with the Blues has been somewhat underwhelming. In 22 Premier League appearances, he has only managed to score one goal - though he has registered a further four assists.
In 39 games in all competitions, Garnacho has eight goals and four assists to his name. Chelsea fans will be hoping to see far more from the South American next term.
