Manchester City
Phil Foden is unlikely to be a serious target for Bayern Munich this summer, despite the Manchester City star being on the German giants’ shortlist.
FCB Inside report comments from journalist Christian Falk. He explains why Foden is unlikely to be a serious target for Bayern this summer.
Bayern Munich makes no sense
Reports have recently linked Phil Foden with a potential exit from Manchester City this summer. the 25-year-old has found himself increasingly out of the picture under Pep Guardiola this season.
The continued excellence of Rayan Cherki, plus Antoine Semenyo’s instant impact, has left Foden on the outside looking in at time. That’s led to talk of a potential exit.
Should he be available, Europe’s elite would undoubtedly be keen. Reports have linked Bayern Munich with a potential interest as a result.
Falk admits that Foden is a name that Vincent Kompany’s side have on their list. But the reality is that it wouldn’t be a move that would suit either party.
“FC Bayern is not looking for a player like him,” he said.
“(He’s) someone who would come with a hefty price tag and expect to start every single match. They are looking for a backup option on the left wing behind Luis Díaz.
“Realistically speaking: Where would Phil Foden actually fit into this squad? It wouldn’t be an ideal move for either party.”
What next for Foden?
This summer will certainly be an interesting one for Phil Foden and Manchester City. At the moment, there’s no indication either party wants to split.
But the reality is that Foden has fallen off this season and been left behind by others who have taken their chances. That won’t have gone unnoticed by Pep Guardiola.
But with Bernardo Silva departing, perhaps there is an opportunity. He will leave a hole that needs to be filled and Foden could do it, if he reinvents himself and his game.
At 25-years-old he still has plenty to offer in the game, but now there’s rising doubts about whether that’s at Manchester City.
