Joe Hart said that all played a big part in the goal which gave Albion a late deficit to wipe out.
The Seagulls twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur and keep them in the relegation zone.
They did so in Roberto De Zerbi’s first home game as Spurs boss.
Albion’s efforts in maintaining their push for Europe were ignored in a five-minute match debrief on BBC TV’s popular Match Of The Day highlights programme.
But, inevitably, the extensive Spurs analysis meant, by extension, some parts of the visitors’ play were also touched upon.
Hart felt De Zerbi targeted the way Verbruggen plays the ball out from the back.
Most notably, Spurs had four players waiting to ambush Jan Paul van Hecke when Verbruggen passed the ball out just ahead of the home side’s second goal.
Verbruggen has been undisputed No.1 in goal throughout Fabian Hurzeler’s tenure as Albion head coach.
But De Zerbi rotated between Verbruggen and Jason Steele for much of the 2023-24 season on what looked like a horses-for-courses basis.
Hart said: “I feel like De Zerbi knew he could really get at Brighton with his previous, working with some of these players.
“You have got Bart Verbruggen, you have got van Hecke and you’ve also got (Pascal) Gross as well.
“He knows that, if you can block those passing lanes, Verbruggen will dither. You can catch him.
“You can turn it over, you can get easy wins and you can score big goals.
“I feel like be really played on that today and it was a great example of the top work Tottenham did.”
Spurs pressed high up from the start and also won the ball back high up ahead of their opening goal.
Hart said their pressing was “relentless and aggressive” and added: “He has obviously got previous with Verbruggen but he wanted to set the atmosphere.”
