Carrick sent Ayden Heaven the same challenge as Ruben Amorim vs Chelsea to cement one player trait

Ayden Heaven came from the wilderness to shine against Chelsea, but what Michael Carrick did with him is reminiscent of Ruben Amorim.

It was the first start for Ayden Heaven under Michael Carrick, and it only took four centre-backs to be unavailable for it to happen.

Carrick’s (lack of) use of Heaven was puzzling before the Chelsea game, and it’s even more puzzling after his great game at Stamford Bridge.

The Man Utd manager threw him into a trial by fire, and Heaven emerged with his reputation enhanced. Coincidentally, that’s not the first time it has happened.

How good was Ayden Heaven against Chelsea?! What a performance!

Carrick’s use of Ayden Heaven is similar to Amorim’s

Heaven is one of the few players who could be forgiven for preferring his time under Amorim, compared to Carrick.

He was a proper project player for Amorim, but it is often forgotten that even under the Portuguese, he received his chance only due to an injury crisis.

As he did against Chelsea, Heaven surpassed expectations when he was thrown into the deep end under Amorim as well.

Amorim kept getting surprised by how swiftly Heaven could come into a wrecked team, lacking match sharpness, but start playing like he’d been playing every week.

Carrick saw the same thing happen after setting Heaven the same challenge of coming into the team cold.

It says everything about the player who, at just 19, has the calmness and composure to just keep things ticking along regardless of what’s happened before.

That mentality trait will set Heaven up for stardom in the future, and considering Carrick’s comments after the game, Heaven has won over yet another manager.

Heaven has saved Man Utd millions

Carrick’s lack of trust in Heaven before this start was worrying, made especially worse because United were seemingly looking at CB options.

With four competitions next season, United need depth as much as first-team quality, so Heaven’s great game under Carrick couldn’t have come at a better time.

He has now proven beyond doubt that he can easily slot in without letting performance levels drop, which is an invaluable trait for a manager.

He is going to get plenty of minutes next season in a rotational role, and with Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs de Ligt all on a downward slope, he is the future of the club.

Considering how well he played against Chelsea, he might soon become the present too.
