Coventry City Council say they have 'always believed' in the Sky Blues

Coventry City Council has issued a message to the Sky Blues after their long-awaited return to the Premier League was confirmed. Promotion to the top flight was sealed with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn on Friday (April 17).

Councillors described the achievement as 'incredible' and praised both Frank Lampard and Doug King. Success on the pitch has lifted spirits across Coventry, as reported by CoventryLive.

But Coventry City Council said the journey was not over yet and urged the Sky Blues to keep striving for glory in the Sky Bet Championship. Only three fixtures remain against Portsmouth, Wrexham, and Watford.

A spokesman for Coventry City Council said: “Congratulations to our brilliant Sky Blues on promotion to the Premier League. It is an incredible achievement and just reward for one of the most memorable and enjoyable seasons in the long and rich history of Coventry City FC.

“Congratulations on behalf of the whole city to the players, manager, coaching staff, owner, and every single person associated with Coventry City, on the pitch and off, it has been a real team effort.

“A return to the Premier League means so much to all the fans who have followed them through the troubled times and have always believed that one day our club would be back where it belongs. Now that moment has finally arrived.

“We have seen over the season how the success of the club has cheered the city. Thousands have flocked to the CBS Arena for home games, and the knock-on effect and feel-good factor has been seen everywhere.

“It has been heartwarming to see how much the club means to Coventry and how the team has been inspired by that! It is not over yet, and there is still the title to play for, and we wish the team well as it chases that silverware, but to have secured promotion early and avoided another nerve-racking play-off date at Wembley is a real cause for celebration.

“Congratulations, Coventry City FC, and our best wishes for a successful return to the Premier League and all the excitement next season will bring.”
