Chelsea’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League are hanging in the balance following their 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on Saturday.
Matheus Cunha netted the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge, meaning the Blues have now won just one of their last eight matches in the competition.
Liam Rosenior’s side sit sixth in the top flight table, and are ten points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification.
Next up for the Blues is a visit to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday evening, but ahead of that match is has emerged that the west London side are contemplating a surprise move to sign a player from one of their fiercest rivals.
According to CaughtOffside, both Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

The 20-year-old joined Spurs from Swedish side Djurgarden in 2024 and has since featured regularly for the north London outfit, making a total of 75 appearances across all competitions.
The youngster is one of few Tottenham players to have found any sort of form this season, but it appears that two of the Lilywhites’ closest rivals are now pondering a move for the Swede.
Despite interest from elsewhere, it is claimed that Spurs view Bergvall as ‘unsellable’ and regard the youngster as a player that could be at the core of their midfield for the next five seasons.
Bergvall’s contract with Spurs is set to run until the end of the 2030/31 season, and it is claimed that talks over a potential move would therefore start at around £50 million.
Spanish giants Barcelona remain interested in the Swede, while fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are also said to have shown interest in the midfielder during the recent winter transfer window.
