Sky Sports was forced to apologise for some explicit language from Manchester City forward Erling Haaland as he was interviewed by the broadcaster following a crucial win over Arsenal. City moved within three points of the league leaders following a 2-1 victory at the Etihad.

Haaland scored a potentially title-changing winner after 65 minutes to hand Pep Guardiola's team an opportunity to go above their rivals if they win their game in hand against Burnley during the week. Rayan Cherki had opened the scoring before Kai Havertz caught Gianluigi Donnarumma in possession to secure an equaliser in the opening half.

There were jubilant scenes for City's stars at full-time as they now find themselves with the chance to move into the driving seat. The significance of the result could be seen radiating from their body language as Bernardo Silva joined Haaland for media duties following the game.

When the Norwegian striker was asked about his team-mate's impressive outing against the Gunners, where he tracked down Havertz and beat Viktor Gyokeres in the air, Haaland had some effusive praise. Silva has just three matches left to play at the Etithad Stadium.

"I remember that cross, I told him after when he headed it out, I told him you were like 'f****ng Cannavaro'," Haaland said, before he was told off by Sky Sports ' Patrick Davison.

"Erling, language please," he said before adding: "It's all right."

"We are all swearing a little bit in our lives," Haaland replied. "I just told him he was like Cannavaro.

"Today, Bernie, I am not going to make you emotional here but you were really good as usual."

Super Sunday presenter Dave Jones offered another apology when coverage returned to the studio. "Apologies for the language," he said. "I get the feeling they were trying to hold quite a lot back in that interview."

Haaland was also asked about his coming together with Gabriel Magalhaes. The Brazilian defender appeared to push his head into the striker's but only received a yellow card.

The 25-year-old believes the punishment would have been more severe if he reacted more dramatically. "I think if I fell on the floor, which I will not do unless someone really attacks me, it will maybe be a red card," he said.

"I'm not sure. But it is what it is, I will not fall on the floor. Yellow card for me, I'm not sure why, he comes up to my face. But it is what it is."
