Journalist: Leeds now keen on signing "unbelievable" assist king who's a "modern-day Gazza"

Leeds United are eyeing a summer move for Gustavo Hamer, with the Sheffield United midfielder now expected to leave in the summer transfer window.

Leeds are very nearly over the line in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League, after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, in a victory that moves them eight points clear of the bottom three, with five games left to play.

However, Daniel Farke doesn't want his side to get ahead of themselves, saying: "I would say during a normal season 39 points are probably enough but we have a special season with teams like Tottenham, which is normally ridiculous, trying to chase us, Nottingham Forest trying to chase us – a team in Europe who spent 150m in the summer.

"We have to play Spurs and West Ham and if you lose it means they get three points. A lot is achieved but nothing is done yet."

Indeed, the Whites aren't quite over the line, but they already have one eye on the summer transfer window, at which point they are eager to inject some additional quality into Farke's midfield.

Leeds eyeing summer move for Gustavo Hamer

According to reliable reporter Alan Nixon (via MOT Leeds News), Leeds are now keen on signing Sheffield United star Hamer in the summer, at which point the Brazil-born midfielder is expected to leave the Blades.

With Chris Wilder's side destined to finish in mid-table in the Championship, the Dutchman could be available for a cut-price fee this summer, despite putting in some top performances in the second tier this season.

Gustavo Hamer likened to Paul Gascogine

The 28-year-old has 12 assists to his name in the Championship, which is the joint-highest number in the division, and he has been likened to England legend Paul Gascogine by former defender Paul Parker.

"He's definitely top two in the Championship. Every time I watch him, he's a focal point. He reminds me, really, of a modern-day Gazza. In England, we're trying to find an Englishman to be Gazza.

“There's actually a Gazza playing in the Championship. You look at his body shape and think 'no, you're not an athlete, you can't play football', but he can play.”

Not only that, but the Sheffield United star has also received plaudits from content creator Zaan, who made it clear he believes the former Coventry City man is capable of playing in the top tier.

The £30k-a-week maestro could well be ready to test himself in the Premier League, but midfield is not the only position in which Farke is looking to strengthen, with a shock approach also being made for a centre-back.
