Four successive Premier League defeats without scoring a goal. Liam Rosenior’s position as Chelsea manager is under increasing scrutiny, but will he be sacked? Glenn Hoddle has given his verdict.
Despite facing a Manchester United side that had just been beaten by Leeds United and had suffered a centre-back crisis, Chelsea suffered defeat once again. Rosenior’s side have now lost six of the last seven.
A dismal run, the first time Chelsea have lost four in a row without scoring a goal in 114 years. Graham Potter was given his marching orders at Chelsea after losing 11 of 31 games. Rosenior has lost nine of 21.

All the noise coming out of Chelsea is that even without Champions League qualification, Chelsea will not sack Rosenior. The Blues are now seven adrift of Liverpool, but could the board succumb to fan pressure?
Glenn Hoddle thinks Chelsea will stick with Rosenior, for now
Forget Champions League qualification, the possibility of Chelsea failing to qualify for any kind of football in Europe next season is very real. Many will argue it simply isn’t Rosenior’s fault; the blame lies upstairs.
But some believe Rosenior is not doing as well as he should be. Asked if Rosenior will be sacked by the Chelsea board, Hoddle told Premier League Productions on the weekend that he expects Rosenior to stay.

“They’re in a really sticky position. For me, for Liam to stay in that job now until the end of the season, I think they’ll give him that opportunity but he’s got to finish on a high note,” he said, after the 1-0 loss.
“He’s got to get some wins under his belt. The reason they brought him in is he’s a young manager, he’s part of their project, if you like, if you want to use that word, and I think they’ll give him that chance.”
Chelsea’s record against Rosenior’s old side Brighton
Next up for Chelsea and Rosenior is a trip to Brighton, more familiar sights for the Chelsea boss. Towards the end of his playing career, Rosenior played more than 50 times for the Seagulls before his retirement.

Then, Rosenior took up an assistant manager’s role in Brighton’s U23 team before embarking on a career in management. Recent history suggests Chelsea will struggle against Brighton on Tuesday night.
Chelsea have lost their last three matches against Brighton, and won just one of their last five trips to The Amex. Certainly, Tuesday’s clash will be a tough one for Chelsea, with Brighton able to leapfrog Chelsea.
