Chelsea are struggling at the moment, but it’s not just the players currently in Liam Rosenior’s squad. Out on loan, David Fofana is among the Chelsea loanees failing to meet the mark.
Another defeat for Rosenior on Saturday night has left Chelsea without any points from their last four Premier League games. The gap between Chelsea and Liverpool in fifth has now stretched to seven.
But it isn’t just in West London that Chelsea’s players are struggling to perform or meet the required mark. Kendry Paez, Aaron Anselmino, Geovany Quenda, and plenty of others are finding it tough.

Another one of Chelsea’s loan army failing to make the grade is striker David Fofana. The £10m signing is now on a fifth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge following his move to Chelsea back in January 2023.
David Fofana misses an open goal as Strasbourg lose 3-0
Since joining Gary O’Neil’s Strasbourg towards the end of the January window, Fofana has managed just three starts of 15 games. It comes after Fofana spent the first half of the season on loan in Turkey.
Indeed, Fofana has only managed eight appearances, unused in seven others. He started against Rennes at home on Sunday, but BlueCo’s other club were hammered 3-0 largely thanks to striker Breel Embolo.

Fofana went into the game having failed to open his Strasbourg account so far, but was put through on goal early on with the score at 0-0. Rounding the goalkeeper, Fofana failed to beat a defender on the line.
Mike Penders conceded another three goals amid reports that the young Belgian goalkeeper will be first choice at Chelsea next season, while Emanuel Emegha continued his recovery from injury as a substitute.
How many players could genuinely leave Chelsea this summer?
The turnover at Chelsea this summer could be bigger than ever. Fofana will certainly headline a long list of players expected to depart Stamford Bridge in the coming months, with other loanees set to go, too.

Axel Disasi, Tyrique George, Nicolas Jackson – all players out on loan that could leave permanently. Then, there will also be casualties in Chelsea’s current squad. Enzo Fernandez seems likely to be the biggest.
Including Disasi and Anselmino, Chelsea have 10 options in the middle of the defence and that needs sorting out. Plenty needs to be done at Stamford Bridge this summer – and that may include a manager.
