€40m Tottenham target could force his way out of Manchester City in summer 2026

The star has been linked with Tottenham for quite a while.

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to revamp their offensive line when the summer transfer window comes around. The North Londoners have been struggling to create goals, and when they create one, to put it in the back of opponents’ net.

Tottenham need some flair up top

And many think this could also be down to Tottenham only having one player in Xavi Simons who tries to take players on and tries to make things happen. There is Kudus in the roster as well, but he has been struggling with injuries in the ongoing campaign.

This is where a need arises for the Lilywhites to bring in a player who tries to take players on and tries to influence games with their flair and dribbles from out wide. This need arises more so after Spurs decided to sell Brennan Johnson without bringing in a potent replacement for the Wales international in the winter transfer window (which also left a lot of Tottenham fans puzzled).

And the North Londoners could jump to bring in a long-term target in the summer window. A lot of Tottenham supporters do not need reminding of how close they came to his signature last off-season when the Lilywhites pushed hard with two bids on the table and a clear intent to take Savinho back to north London before Pep Guardiola stepped in and shut the door.

Now that same door looks like it could be cracking open again.

Savinho to push for Man City exit?

The €40m Savinho ended up staying at Etihad Stadium last summer with the promise of getting regular opportunities under his belt, but instead, it has been a season of waiting for him given how he has had only five Premier League starts under his belt. For someone who thrives on confidence and continuity, having only 579 league minutes tells you a story of its own.

And every passing week, it looks like he may not be willing to accept another year.

And that is exactly what Pete O’Rourke, who is a transfer correspondent at Football Insider, thinks as well. Speaking in the latest episode of the Insider Track podcast, he said:

“Yeah, he was very strongly linked with the move away last summer. Tottenham tried really hard to lure him away from the Etihad.

“He’s still highly regarded at City, but has struggled for regular minutes this season because of the form of the other players in their squad.

“It’ll be up to the player, I think, to maybe force a move if he is unhappy with his lack of first-team football.”

If Savinho pushes for a City exit, then the situation changes quickly as it gives Spurs insider leverage when they get back on the table for his signing. But if he does not, City will be under no pressure to sell, and it could end up quite similarly, just like last time around.
