Experienced referee handed the middle for Albion v Chelsea

The highly experienced official from Sheffield has the middle as the Seagulls face Chelsea at the Amex.

It will be the 35th time he has reffed Albion, dating way back to a 0-0 draw at Leicester City in League One.

That history includes the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United in late April, 2023, which Albion lost in a shoot-out having drawn 0-0.

Pawson last refereed Albion when they lost 2-0 at Liverpool in December.

His most recent visit to the Amex was for the 2-1 win over Newcastle earlier this season.

His 22 games across all competitions this term have brought a modest tally of 65 yellow cards as well as three reds.

His last dismissal was for Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in unusual circumstances late in their game at home to Manchester City.

That moment also saw him disallow a City goal, spot a City foul and award them a free-kick, all with guidance from VAR.

Pawson’s most recent match was the FA Cup tie between West Ham and Leeds, won by the latter on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

James Bell has video duties for the game.

The full officiating team for Albion v Chelsea is as follows.

Referee: Craig Pawson. Assistants: Lee Betts, Eddie Smart. Fourth official: Ruebyn Ricardo. VAR: James Bell. Assistant VAR: Peter Wright.
