Liam Rosenior warned he faces sack if Chelsea lose to Leeds in FA Cup

talkSPORT's Jeff Stelling 'fears' for Liam Rosenior's job should Chelsea lose to Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend.

The Blues are on a dreadful run under the Englishman, losing six of their last seven in all competitions.

In the Premier League, they are winless in their last four and are in real danger of finishing outside of the European places.

A defeat on Saturday to Manchester United, followed by Liverpool beating Everton in the Merseyside derby, leaves Chelsea seven points off the Champions League places.

But they could still claim silverware with FA Cup success.

However, Leeds are unbeaten in six and are full of confidence heading to Wembley.

Stelling feels as if Rosenior will be in trouble should the Blues lose to Leeds at Wembley on Sunday, live on talkSPORT.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast with Ally McCoist and Early Sports Breakfast host Olivia Buzaglo, he said: "I feel for Liam Rosenior. I feel the FA Cup is keeping him in a job.

"If they were to lose to Leeds, I would fear for him, but it's an incredibly difficult situation.

"But one thing that worries me is that they haven't got a massive number of injuries, but I am looking at the squad that has been assembled there and how poor it is and wondering could Chelsea be next season's Tottenham?"

In response, Buzaglo said: "I think it is a very, very dangerous road that Chelsea are going down, and every summer feels huge.

"This one, maybe more than the last couple, because you wanted to build off the Club World Cup.

"Do they accept that they got it wrong? And do they go for a big-name manager? Or do they stick with Liam Rosenior because they think he can be the manager to turn it around."

McCoist also chipped in on the manager's future.

He said: "I don't know what they are thinking because they are all over the place.

"The Maresca situation baffled me. Generally, you get rid of a manager because they aren't doing well, but that hasn't been the case at Chelsea."

Deep problems

On the face of it, Chelsea are still likely to get Europa League football, but the teams below them are in form.

And Newcastle United, in 14th, are only six points behind them, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Blues finish outside of the top ten.

And as well as discussing Rosenior's future, Stelling broke down some of the shocking statistics behind Chelsea's form.

He said: "They are winless in four Premier League games, but the situation is much, much worse than that.

"They are tumbling down the table. The prospect of them not having any form of European football next season is realistic.

"They have the same number of points as Brentford and Bournemouth, and Spurs have had three managers since Chelsea last kept a Premier League clean sheet.

"How can it get any worse, Olivia?"

She responded: "I don't know. Maybe going out to Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday?

"But actually, given how the two teams are playing right now, Leeds will be going into that game very confident they can get through to the FA Cup final.

"When you look at Chelsea's spending...

"It's a classic example of just spending money because if you aren't getting your recruitment right, it doesn't always go to plan. It doesn't matter how much money you spend.

"I say this because I didn't think Chelsea played too badly against Manchester United, but they were clinical.

"Estevao went off injured, so you look to the bench, and this isn't any disrespect to the players on the bench because it's not their fault, but let me just read you the players that were on Chelsea's bench.

"Josh Acheampong, Trevoh Chalobah, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Tosin Adarabioyo, Dario Essugo, Andrey Santos, Romeo Lavia, Marc Guiu and Alejandro Garnacho.

"When you look at the amount of money that Chelsea have spent how is a club like Chelsea going into a game against Manchester United with those players on the bench?"

McCoist responded: "Yeah, you are right.

"I thought Garnacho looked like a wee boy. I thought he really, really struggled.

"But for Chelsea, I think it's deeper than that. The bench is a problem because it's not strong enough, but I think the problems are running a lot deeper."

Buzaglo then aired her thoughts.

"We know about the Premier League record, but Chelsea have lost six of the last seven - the only win was 7-0 against Port Vale.

"Liam Rosenior is under a lot of pressure - I don't think it is entirely his fault, but he has to take some responsibility for the run of form his team are on.

"One of the reasons Maresca had issues because he wanted a centre-back, and he didn't get it.

"When you look at the managers under this ownership; Tuchel, Maresca and Pochettino - they all did well, and there were reports they couldn't work under the ownership.

"That is a huge problem."

So, the issues at Chelsea are clear from off the pitch to on the pitch, and there is a real possibility that this season gets worse before anything improves.
