Report: Chelsea board agree £40m signing has flopped this season

Alejandro Garnacho’s move from Manchester United to Chelsea last summer has not gone to plan.

In February, Chelsea fans made it clear that they were happy to sacrifice Garnacho in order to sign RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

Supporters have not been impressed with Garnacho, and it looks like the same goes for the Chelsea board.

Chelsea board accept Alejandro Garnacho signing hasn’t worked out

According to a report from talkSPORT, which has come out after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United over the weekend, there is now an acceptance among the Blues’ hierarchy that the Garnacho signing has not worked out.

The same outlet has also claimed that Chelsea are now open to selling the winger as a result despite him having only arrived at the club last August.

Chelsea paid £40m to sign Garnacho from their Premier League rivals United, which some felt was a bargain at the time.

It has also been reported elsewhere that Chelsea are prepared to sell Garnacho this summer, so it does appear that the club may already be done with him.

To the delight of his former supporters, Garnacho really struggled against United as Chelsea fell to a fourth consecutive defeat in the English top flight.

How Alejandro Garnacho blew his golden opportunity at Chelsea

Whatever happens this summer, Garnacho cannot complain about not getting a chance. With Jamie Gittens struggling to stay fit this season, the Argentina international has had the opportunity to nail down the spot on the left. He has not done it, though.

In the cup competitions, Garnacho has been able to make an impact. For example, in four Carabao Cup fixtures, he scored four goals, including a brace against Arsenal.

However, Garnacho has struggled in the Premier League, netting just once. With that in mind, it is not a shock to hear that Chelsea are already thinking about selling him.

That being said, Garnacho is still a young player with a lot of potential. There is no reason why he cannot improve at Chelsea and turn things around.
