Liam Rosenior promotes Chelsea youngster in training ahead of Brighton clash

Chelsea’s injury problems are racking up, and Liam Rosenior has looked to quell the lack of numbers by calling up a youngster to senior training ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Brighton.

Alongside injuries to Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Filip Jorgensen, Jamie Gittens, and Levi Colwill, Liam Rosenior answered questions about Estevao, Enzo Fernandez, and Joao Pedro after injuries on Saturday.

What changes would you make?

Chelsea suffered a sixth defeat in seven games on Saturday night against Man United, and the loss has left the Blues with almost zero chance of qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the season.

The Blues now face Brighton, having lost their last three matches against Rosenior’s old side. Rosenior confirmed Estevao would miss the trip to the south coast, Pedro is a doubt but Fernandez is fit to play.

Liam Rosenior calls up Jesse Derry to first-team training

Chelsea held training on Monday ahead of the trip to Brighton tomorrow night, which sees Rosenior return to face a side he played more than 50 times for, and then worked as a U23 assistant manager.

According to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, 18-year-old Jesse Derry was in senior training on Monday. Derry has made his first-team debut under Rosenior and could now be in with a shout of playing.

Derry is yet to play in the Premier League, or even be a part of the matchday squad. Kinsella posted on X, following Monday’s press conference: “Jesse Derry was training with Chelsea’s first team squad today.”

How Chelsea are expected to line-up against Brighton…

With Estevao sidelined and Pedro a doubt, Rosenior will have some decisions to make when it comes to picking his starting XI. He is forced into a change out wide, and it could see Alejandro Garnacho start.

Palmer has improved since playing in the 10, after a stint on the right flank under Rosenior. Pedro Neto was one of Chelsea’s best players against Man United, and Garnacho is now likely to start on Tuesday.

Liam Delap struggled on Saturday even if he did almost score only his second Premier League goal, and Rosenior will be keen to start Pedro even if not fully it. There may also be changes at centre-back.

Wesley Fofana was spotted walking off the pitch at full-time angrily, and Rosenior may decide a change is needed. Fernandez’s fitness is a positive, and he is likely to partner Moises Caicedo in central midfield.
