Petr Cech thinks he’s figured out the problem that keeps costing Chelsea points this season

A lot of Chelsea legends are hurting at the position the club find themselves in right now, with Petr Cech making it clear they need to add more experience to their ranks if they want to get themselves out of this mess.

Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United leaves the Blues closer to 14th than fifth in the table, and facing an unlikely battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has outlined his problems with the current owners, who the Blues fans protested against in the build up to Saturday’s game.

Petr Cech says Chelsea need more experience

The main criticism fired at Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali is that their transfer policy has been all wrong, and they have been far too obsessed with bringing in promising players rather than those who can immediately make an impact.

Petr Cech also believes this is the core reason why they haven’t kicked on this season, telling Canal+ he thinks it has impacted their ability to remain consistent this season.

He said: “Today, I think that when you look at the team and the lack of consistency they’ve had this season, for example, and also the changes in managers, there have been a lot of changes in players as well.

“That means there still isn’t that stability, that core of the team that’s been established. And I think that also takes time.

“And I don’t see this team being consistent enough to challenge Manchester City or Arsenal, or teams that, despite everything, haven’t been that impressive this season. But Chelsea are missing something—maybe experience, and also players who have already won titles and played in big matches.

“Right now, there’s a lot of talent, but there’s that lack of experience that’s costing them points.”

Chelsea planning changes to transfer policy

Eghbali admitted in an interview last week that Chelsea were going to have to make changes to their transfer policy after mistakes have been made in recent windows.

There is no real surprise that their best addition of the summer has been Joao Pedro, a player who has Premier League experience under his belt already.

The steady stream of young additions will still be coming. They have already reportedly agreed a deal for Valentin Barco from Strasbourg.

However, they are now likely to be in the conversation for proven stars, with the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jan Paul van Hecke being strongly linked with a move.
