Arsene Wenger Says There Are 2 Reasons Why He“Deeply”Believes Arsenal Will Win The Title

Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger says the Gunners’ performance against Manchester City has convinced him that Mikel Arteta’s side will finish top of the table, despite suffering a 2-1 loss.

Speaking at an Abbey Road Studios fund-raiser for ProjectTwinning (quotes via Metro), Wenger said that he can see City dropping points in the run-in, and combined with the attacking mentality he saw from Arsenal at the Etihad, he thinks they won’t bottle the title:

“I believe that Arsenal will win the league. I deeply believe. It looks, to me, like common sense.”

“I like Eze, Odegaard, Havertz and Madueke attacking (intent at the Etihad). Manchester City will not make the perfect run-in.”

Will Man City drop points?

Arsenal’s title rivals have two away league fixtures over the next couple of weeks. You would expect them to come away with a win from Turf Moor when they face Burnley on Wednesday evening.

However, on Monday week, Pep Guardiola’s team will travel to play Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and that will undoubtedly be a trickier match to negotiate.

They also have games against Brentford (h), Bournemouth (a), Crystal Palace (h) and Aston Villa (h), and not all of those are guaranteed three points either.

What are the odds of Arsenal winning the league?

The defeat at the Etihad Stadium has reduced their chances of securing top spot in the eyes of Opta. At one point, the Gunners were given a 98% probability of finishing 1st.

However, after the weekend’s results, that percentage has dropped to 72.04%. Manchester City’s chances, meanwhile, are rated at 27.96%.

It means Arteta’s side are still the favoured team, as they have the points on the board, but things have started to get uncomfortably tight at the top of the league.
