Roberto Di Matteo will be keeping a close eye on Chelsea’s transfer activity this summer.
This season, Chelsea have been miles away from challenging for the title. In fact, they are not even going to qualify for the Champions League. With just five games to go, the Blues find themselves seven points behind fifth place.
However, Di Matteo thinks the transfer market could help change Chelsea’s fortunes going forward.

Roberto Di Matteo urges Chelsea owners to sign more experienced players
Amid their struggles this season, there has been a lot of talk about Chelsea’s squad, with many feeling that it is too young and inexperienced.
Di Matteo shares that sentiment and has told owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali to start signing more experienced players so that there is a balance. If they do that, the former Chelsea manager and midfielder thinks his old side will be in a position to compete for the Premier League title.
Speaking to AFP via France 24, Di Matteo said: “I think the owner just said it last week. On the weekend he said that they’re probably going to look at changing the transfer policy a little bit.
“I think it’s vital. If you want to have a little bit more consistency, if you want to be able to challenge, maybe for the Premier League, you need to have a good balance. You need very good, young, talented players, but you also need a little bit of experience within the team.”

In recent weeks, Chelsea have been linked with several experienced footballers, including Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez wants to play up front, but Joao Pedro is the Blues’ first-choice striker right now and has done an excellent job leading the line for Chelsea this season.
Roberto Di Matteo and Chelsea fans set to get their wish
The good news for Di Matteo and Chelsea supporters is that their pleas are set to be answered.
As the Champions League-winning coach alluded to, Eghbali has already stated that Chelsea are going to start targeting more seasoned players.
As well as that, there have also been reports claiming that Chelsea will indeed sign some experienced footballers in the summer.
Next season, a title challenge will probably come a bit too soon. But if Chelsea can add some experience at the back and maybe in attack, they should be able to qualify for the Champions League.
For now, it is just talk. Chelsea fans will want to see action as soon as the transfer market opens.
