Chelsea player ratings vs Brighton, 2/10 man rules himself out of FA Cup semi-final

Chelsea’s Premier League troubles deepened as they were defeated 3-0 by Brighton. Let’s take a look at our player ratings from another loss.

Liam Rosenior was without both Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro in attack, and this clearly had an impact as the Blues created very little in attack.

Defensively, they were not much better either. Chelsea conceded from another set piece just minutes into the game.

Chelsea continuing to make history under Liam Rosenior… for all the wrong reasons!

The boss will have to take some of the criticism again after his decision to start the game with three at the back, a system which clearly didn’t work.

The Chelsea Chronicle have handed out their player ratings for the game at the Amex.

Chelsea player ratings vs Brighton

Robert Sanchez: 5/10

Looked petrified every time the ball was at his feet, and his passing should have made the deficit worse in the first half. Did make a number of important saves to save further embarrassment.

Malo Gusto: 5/10

Looked to get forward but Chelsea ultimately didn’t retain possession enough for him to have any proper influence on the game.

Wesley Fofana: 2/10

Was on the losing side of the battle with the Brighton attack, and there was no surprise when he was replaced at half-time as Chelsea looked to go more attacking. Wesley Fofana simply cannot start against Leeds on Sunday.

Trevoh Chalobah: 4/10

Made a crucial clearance off the line to spare Sanchez’s blushes in the first half, however Trevoh Chalobah didn’t exactly take control of the game as Chelsea suffered.

Jorrel Hato: 6/10

Again showed signs that he has actually been Chelsea’s best centre-back in recent weeks despite naturally being a left-back. Jorrel Hato was composed in possession again.

Marc Cucurella: 4/10

Victim of the boo boys of Brighton, it was far from Marc Cucurella’s best performance for Chelsea, although he was limited by the five at the back system in the first half which did not play to his strengths.

Romeo Lavia: 6/10

Romeo Lavia was very reliable in possession whenever the ball came his way, and will again have benefitted from another outing

Moises Caicedo: 3/10

What has happened to Moises Caicedo? Completely bullied by the Brighton attack for their second goal, and just doesn’t have the same defensive impact that he had in the first half of the season.

What have you made of Liam Rosenior’s new system against Brighton so far? 🤔

It's been a dreadful opening half an hour!

Enzo Fernandez: 4/10

Worked hard, but overall added nothing in attack for Chelsea. With no Cole Palmer or Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez was being tasked with a lot of the creativity for the Blues.

Pedro Neto: 4/10

Got the Blues up the pitch on a number of occasions, however always looked as if he could offer more when he was taking on his man in the final third.

Liam Delap: 3/10

Again, offered nothing in attack. Chelsea’s best player this season has been Pedro, and Liam Delap has been a fairly woeful deputy for him.

Alejandro Garnacho: 5/10

Alejandro Garnacho’s introduction signified a new system on the pitch for Chelsea, however a bright opening few minutes was quickly drowned out by the club’s struggles.

Dario Essugo: 6/10

Marc Guiu: 5/10

Josh Acheampong: N/A
