The Chelsea fans who travelled to Brighton and Hove Albion sent an X-rated message to Liam Rosenior as the Blues fell to another awful defeat. The Seagulls secured a fourth consecutive victory over the west Londoners, easing their way to a 3-0 home victory.

For Rosenior, it was a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat and a seventh in eight matches in all competitions. It was a nightmare display from the start of the match, as Ferdi Kadioglu took advantage of more poor set-piece defending from the west Londoners to score after just three minutes.

Rosenior ditched the back-three formation he deployed at the start of the match and Chelsea initially looked to have improved after half time, but Jack Hinshelwood ended any optimism by doubling the lead in the 56th minute. In injury time, Danny Welbeck confounded the Blues' misery by scoring a third.

In-between Brighton's second and third goals, chants off 'F*** off Rosenior" could be heard from the travelling Chelsea fans. Seagulls supporters then collectively broke out in chants off 'Liam Rosenior, he's one of our own" to support their former player.

The response from his former fan base would have done little to ease the stress on the Chelsea boss. A win for the west Londoners would have breathed new life into their hopes of finishing in the Champions League places.

If results go against them, they could soon be as low as 11th. The defeat left Chelsea in seventh position on 48 points and are now only two points away 11th placed Sunderland and three from Fulham, all of whom have a game-in-hand on the Blues.

After the match, Rosenior approached the travelling supporters and put his hand on his chest as an apologetic gesture for the Chelsea fans. When asked if that was his side's worst display over the course of the recent run, Rosenior said: "By far. That was unacceptable in every aspect of the game, unacceptable in the attitude.

"I keep coming out to defend the players but that was indefensible tonight. Something needs to change drastically right now.

"That performance tonight, the manner of the goals we conceded, the amount of duels that we lost, the lack of intensity in the team, something needs to change drastically.

"We need to look in the mirror. I need to look in the mirror. But I can't keep coming out here and defending some of the things that we're seeing.

He also added it was a giant step back after a relatively promising display in the 1-0 home loss to Manchester United on the weekend. Rosenior said: "Manchester United, genuinely result wasn't there but I felt we turned a corner.

"But the general attitude, spirit was lacking - determination from three or four of the starting eleven. That's nowhere near enough for this club. I can't come out and lie. I tell the truth. That was an unacceptable performance at every level."
