Chelsea open for “creative” offers to sign 20yo Tottenham star who is also wanted by Arsenal

Tottenham are staring at relegation right now.

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a difficult campaign as the Lilywhites stare at a probable relegation going into the final five games of the season.

And this has opened up opportunities for other clubs to come in and pounce on Lilywhites players.

There have been a few linked away from N17 going into the offseason, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven leading the line for a possible exit, with a line of suitors only increasing for these signatures. But a new name has popped up in the rumour mill lately who has been expressively gathering suitors of his own in past weeks.

Chelsea open to sign Tottenham midfielder

There have been a few clubs looking to use this Spurs slump to sign midfielder Lucas Bergvall. And as per recent reports (via CaughtOffside), Premier League giants Chelsea have been described as a keen party for his signatures. The Blues are said to be open to figuring out “creative” measures to prise the 20-year-old away from N17. But the Blues aren’t alone in their pursuit of Bergvall, with the Lilywhites’ arch rivals Arsenal also lurking around his services.

For Tottenham, though, given his performances, Bergvall is among the players they’d want to keep at Hotspur Way.

This is not the first time that Chelsea have tried to sign Bergvall, though. The West Londoners expressed interest in signing him in the winter window, and it looks like their interest hasn’t gone away just yet as they look to find creative ways to get their hands on Bergvall.

When signing him, Bergvall chose Tottenham over Barcelona, and now it is for the Lilywhites to ensure that they keep hold of him with rising interest. That being said, it will be quite tough to do so if Spurs are to drop into the Championship.

In the aforementioned report, valuations of around £50m have been emerging for Bergvall, which in itself is a significant fee given that Bergvall is still only developing physically as well as tactically. But if such an offer were to come to the table, the Lilywhites would have to make a decision.

Bergvall fits De Zerbi style

Having Roberto De Zerbi at the helm at N17 is another layer of complexity for Tottenham given that the system that he is likely to deploy at Tottenham will demand having midfielders who are comfortable to get under pressure and progress the sequences through tight spaces. And let’s be honest, Bergvall looks tailor-made for that role.

And that in itself should be enough for Tottenham to push to keep hold of him.

But do you think that would be enough if Chelsea are to put a hefty offer on the table? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
