Manchester United are formulating plans ahead of the summer transfer window. Michael Carrick's team are in a strong position to clinch a Champions League berth, allowing the club to outline their recruitment strategy.
One of United's primary concerns will be naming a new permanent manager. While interim boss Carrick is making his case for the position, whoever secures the role will confront crucial decisions in the transfer market.
Marcus Rashford's future has been a longstanding subject, following his consecutive loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. The England international has consistently expressed his wish to remain with the Catalan side, who hold the option to make his stay permanent for £26million.
However, there have been reports that Rashford will not complete a permanent move to Barcelona, leaving the door ajar for a potential return to Old Trafford. The 28-year-old lost his place under former boss Ruben Amorim and last featured for United in December 2024.
Meanwhile, the Spanish heavyweights are reportedly competing with United for highly-regarded Brazilian prospect Eduardo Conceicao. Here, MEN Sport examines some of the major headlines surrounding the club.
Marcus Rashford dealt transfer blow
Rashford has previously expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona since arriving on loan from United last summer. The forward has made 43 appearances for his parent club so far this season, contributing 12 goals and 13 assists.
In October, when quizzed about whether he would like to make his loan move permanent, Rashford told ESPN: "Oh yeah, for sure. I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player it is an honour."
However, a report from Spanish publication Marca has suggested that Rashford is one of five players set to depart in the next transfer window. The United loanee is said to be among a group of players who have "completed a cycle", which could see him return to his boyhood club this summer.
The report states that Rashford's performances have "left mixed impressions", prompting Barcelona to opt against triggering his purchase option. Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski is another of the five players anticipated to move on, alongside Andreas Christensen, Marc Casado and Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona rival Man Utd for £34m target
Barcelona are reportedly among several clubs competing with Manchester United in the pursuit of Palmeiras starlet Eduardo Conceicao. The 16-year-old has attracted widespread interest, with Manchester City also amongst those credited with an interest in the teenager.
Brazilian media outlet UOL has claimed that United are willing to pay approximately £34m for the Brazil U17 international. It is further stated that Palmeiras have not yet received any fresh bids but remain conscious of the interest surrounding the young talent.
The Brazilian side are reported to value the attacker at roughly £43.5m, despite him not yet featuring for the first team. Should the teenager agree to a move, he would remain at Palmeiras until December 2027, once he turns 18.
