Marc Cucurella's message to assistant referee and fourth official during Brighton defeat - journalist

It is fair to say that Marc Cucurella was not happy during Chelsea’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

Chelsea lost 3-0 — their fifth consecutive defeat in the English top flight — and Cucurella was targeted with boos from Brighton supporters.

However, it was not his teammates or Brighton fans that the defender aimed his frustration at.

Chelsea continuing to make history under Liam Rosenior… for all the wrong reasons!

Marc Cucurella ironically tells officials to wake up during Chelsea’s loss to Brighton

There was one moment during the game when Cucurella had a clear message for the assistant referee and fourth official.

He told them that they needed to wake up, a scene caught by Sky Sports reporter Chris Reidy.

Given that Cucurella and the rest of Chelsea’s defence have been sleeping since Liam Rosenior took over, it is quite ironic.

Following Brighton’s two goals against the Blues, they have now kept just one clean sheet in 13 Premier League games under Rosenior. It is a shocking statistic and shows just how poor Chelsea have been defensively this season.

Enzo Fernandez tried to encourage his teammates after they went a goal down after just three minutes, but it did not make a difference.

Marc Cucurella really hit by Enzo Maresca departure

Cucurella has the skill set of a complete full-back. The Spaniard can defend and attack.

However, under Rosenior, he has looked anything but. There is no doubt that Cucurella is one Chelsea player who has been impacted by Enzo Maresca’s departure.

He looked like one of the best left-backs in the world under the Italian. No, he was. Now, though, he is not in that category.

Being part of a defence that has lost five consecutive games in the Premier League, Cucurella cannot be. Hopefully, Cucurella can rediscover his best form again next season.

Of course, approaching the final two years of his contract at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea may have to sell the Spain international or risk losing him on a free transfer in the future.
