Liam Rosenior's latest comments are proof that his time is up as Chelsea manager - opinion

There was an overwhelming sense of the end approaching for Liam Rosenior after Chelsea’s defeat to Brighton when he refused to confirm whether the players were still fighting for him.

Chelsea’s Premier League troubles deepened with a 3-0 defeat to Brighton, effectively ruling them out of any chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Liam Rosenior has to take a large portion of the blame for the latest loss. His side created hardly anything after he started the game with just Pedro Neto and Liam Delap as attacking options.

Liam Rosenior doesn’t even know if Chelsea players are fighting for him anymore

As Chelsea were outrun by yet another opponent, Rosenior was asked if he believed the players had stopped playing for him, and he admitted to Football London that their latest performance was a sign of that.

He said: “Judging off that performance, it looks that way. I won’t lie. That was unacceptable. I don’t feel there’s a disconnect between me and the players. We work very closely with them in training, in individual meetings, team meetings.

“We are giving everything to the players. There is a lack of spirit, a lack of belief that can create that perspective that makes it look a certain way. I can’t argue with that at the moment because the run we’re on is unacceptable and that performance definitely was as well.

“At the moment, whether it’s playing for me, it’s not about playing for me. It’s about playing for the club. It’s about playing for the shirt. It’s about playing to win games of football. I can speak on what I saw tonight. You can read anything into it that you want, whether they’re playing for me or not, but that performance in itself was damning. It stood everything against what I believe in.”

Trevoh Chalobah seemed to take offence to Rosenior’s post-match verdict that the players were not working hard enough, although the stats are not in his favour.

Chelsea fans, if Liam Rosenior was sacked before the FA Cup semi-final, who would you want to see in charge?

Chelsea’s stance on Liam Rosenior

Chelsea owner Behdad Eghbali made it clear the club do not want to change manager mid-season. He didn’t even want to do that after being badmouthed by Enzo Maresca in the press.

However, Blues fans are making their voices heard that they want mass changes at the club, and this includes the man in charge of the first team squad.

The Blues were even confident in backing Rosenior if the club missed out on Champions League football, something which now looks inevitable.

At this stage there is no word that he is going to be replaced before the FA Cup semi-final, although defeat there would turn even the most generous of fans against what is going on at the club.
