Manchester United are formulating plans ahead of the summer transfer window.

Michael Carrick's team are third in the Premier League and in a strong position to clinch a Champions League spot by finishing at least fifth, enabling the club to outline their recruitment blueprint. One of United's primary concerns will be naming a new permanent manager.

While interim boss Carrick is making his case for the role, whoever lands the position will confront crucial choices in the transfer market. One of those will be addressing the future of Marcus Rashford, a situation which still remains unclear. Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford faces transfer U-turn

Marcus Rashford's future has been an ongoing subject of speculation, following his back-to-back loan stints at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

The England international has consistently expressed his wish to remain with the Catalan giants, who possess the option to secure his services permanently for £26million. But his dream may be turning into a nightmare.

That's because there have been indications Rashford will not complete a permanent move to Barcelona, leaving the door ajar for a potential return to Old Trafford, reports the Mirror.

The 28-year-old lost favour under former manager Ruben Amorim and last featured for United in December 2024 after disciplinary incidents.

The forward has made 43 appearances for Barcelona this season, netting 12 goals and providing 13 assists. In October, when quizzed on whether he'd like to make his loan stint permanent, Rashford told ESPN: "Oh yeah, for sure.

"I'm enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player it is an honour."

However, a report from Spanish publication Marca has suggested Rashford is one of five players poised to depart in the forthcoming transfer window.

It's claimed the United loanee is among a select group of players who have "completed a cycle", which could see him return to his childhood club this summer.

The report indicates Rashford's performances have "left mixed impressions", leading Barcelona to decide against activating his purchase option.

Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski is another of the five players anticipated to move on, alongside Andreas Christensen, Marc Casado and Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona are reportedly among several clubs vying with Manchester United in the pursuit to sign Palmeiras prodigy Eduardo Conceicao.

The-16 year-old wonderkid has garnered widespread interest, with Manchester City also believed to be keen on the youngster.

Brazilian publication UOL has reported United are willing to shell out roughly £34m for the Brazil U17 international. It's also noted Palmeiras haven't received any fresh bids but are aware of the growing interest in their young prospect.

The Brazilian outfit reportedly value the forward at around £43.5m, despite him not yet breaking into the first team.
