Givairo Read
Manchester City have Feyenoord’s Givairo Read on their transfer agenda for the summer.
Last November, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are looking at the right-back.
His development at the Eredivisie side have seen a few top clubs consider signing him in the next window.
The 19-year-old joined the Dutch club from FC Volendam in June 2023 and has been a regular since October 2024.
He made 50 appearances so far, managing four goals and 11 assists and 16 matches are from this season.
His league stats this season are as follows:
Appearances: 12
Starts: 10
Total minutes: 784
Minutes per game: 65
Interceptions per game: 0.8
Tackles per game: 1.4
Possession won (final third): 0.2
Ball recovered per game: 2.9
Clearances per game: 1.8
Duels won per game: 3.1
Manchester City and Bayern Munich keen
The fullback picked up a hamstring injury in November, forcing him to spend 54 days on the sidelines. He again suffered another setback in January and is yet to return to the pitch.
His injury situation hasn’t put off Manchester City and Bayern Munich. That’s according to Voetbal International, who cover the duo’s interest in a detailed report about Feyenoord.
VI focuses on the developments that could take place at Feyenoord, who are fighting to qualify for the Champions League. They are second in the table, a point and two points ahead of third and fourth placed NEC Nijmegen and FC Twente respectively.
Only the top two clubs qualify.
When discussing transfers, Givairo Read gets a mention first. Feyenoord technical director Dennis te Kloese is counting on a record-breaking deal, especially because of Manchester City entering the race.
Bayern Munich are also showing keen interest and want to pay €30m for the Netherlands U21 international.
The Premier League side’s interest is likely to increase the price, allowing Feyenoord to collect a club-record fee. The current record is €32m from Mats Wieffer’s sale to Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2024.
Although Manchester City seem to be pushing to sign Read, the Bundesliga winners are still in pole position.
Contract, value and agent info
Givairo Read has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €25m.
Dutch agency Muy Manero are representing him and their client list includes Newcastle United’s Sven Botman and several other players.
Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are currently the two right-backs at the Etihad this season. The Dutchman could be an option Manchester City, who would have to take his recent injuries into account.
