Anthony Gordon is an injury doubt for Newcastle United's trip to Arsenal in Premier League action this Saturday. The England international missed the defeat to Bournemouth this past weekend because of a hip problem he made clear last Wednesday - just 24 hours before reports emerged that he was open to leaving the club this summer.

Arsenal are one of many clubs to have been linked with Gordon in the following days with Liverpool and Bayern Munich also holding an interest. Gordon missing the fixture could dent his apparent transfer hopes with the Daily Mail reporting a scan revealed a problem in his hip, meaning he is expected to miss a potential audition at the Emirates.

Gordon is expected to return this season but comments from Eddie Howe last Friday cast doubt over the England international's future when he was left out of the squad after the Newcastle boss stated he would not pick any players that he did not feel were "100 per cent committed". However, a minor injury was the reason for Gordon's absence.

The Mail report adds that his Three Lions teammate Tino Livramento is set to miss the trip to the capital after he picked up a thigh injury against Bournemouth. The full-back is in a race against time to play again in the final weeks of the campaign.

Gordon's possible absence in addition to that is a major boost to the Gunners' hopes of getting back to winning ways after losing back-to-back league games. A victory against Eddie Howe's side is of high importance with Manchester City going top if they beat Burnley on Wednesday.

Wins for Pep Guardiola's side over Chelsea and Arsenal this month has seen the title race go back into their hands with the north Londoners losing to Bournemouth as well as their rivals. The last few weeks have somewhat exposed Arsenal's transfer splurge this past summer as a window where no marquee signings were acquired.

It has become quite clear that a new left winger is required with Gordon potentially the perfect fit for that position. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain is another to have been linked that would raise the ceiling of Arteta's starting XI.

Sporting director Andrea Berta will undoubtedly be working on transfers for the summer already but the club's immediate focus is the Premier League title and the Champions League. In the semi-finals of latter competition, Arsenal are set to face Atletico Madrid with the first leg in Spain coming four days after the visit of Newcastle.

The Emirates then hosts the second leg the following Tuesday. Arsenal face Fulham between those two European knockout fixtures with trips to West Ham United and Crystal Palace either side of facing Burnley on home soil in May.

As for Man City, their weekend fixture against Burnley has been brought forward due to their involvement in the FA Cup semi-finals where they will play Southampton. Had Arsenal beaten the Championship side, this weekend would have been the third meeting between the two title rivals in just over four weeks.

Following their trip to Wembley, City have scheduled matches against Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Depending on their result this Saturday, the visit of Palace and trip to the Cherries may yet be rearranged.
