Report: Chelsea eye £87m winger to replace Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho only arrived at Chelsea last summer, but it looks like the former Manchester United winger could already be on his way out of the club.

It was recently reported that the consensus at Chelsea is that the Garnacho signing has not worked out, making a sale in the upcoming transfer window possible.

In terms of potential replacements for the 21-year-old, the Blues are being linked with several names.

Chelsea identify Nico Williams as potential replacement for Alejandro Garnacho

One winger who is said to be on Chelsea’s radar is Athletic Club star Nico Williams, who has been the subject of interest from the Conference League holders in the past.

According to TEAMtalk, Liam Rosenior is open to selling Garnacho and Williams has been identified as a potential option to replace him.

However, the 23-year-old will not come cheap. Last July, the reliable Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Williams has a €100m (£86.9m) release clause in his new contract.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge before he signed a contract extension at the San Mames Stadium.

It was previously reported that Chelsea were initially prepared to pay Williams’ old release clause, but that never happened in the end.

Nico Williams’ and Alejandro Garnacho’s stats this season compared

Williams is not having his best campaign at Athletic Club, but he is still outperforming Garnacho in several key attacking areas.

For example, he has scored more league goals than the Argentina international and is averaging more key passes and dribbles per game than him.

According to WhoScored, Williams makes 1.5 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per game, while Garnacho has averages of 1.3 and 0.6 respectively. When it comes to dribbles, there is only one winner.

Williams has played more minutes than Garnacho, although the Chelsea star actually has more assists than the man he could be replaced by.

Whatever the case, Chelsea fans have not really taken to Garnacho and would probably be happy to say goodbye to him tomorrow.
