PSG reject theory over transfer to Aston Villa or Manchester City – Set story straight

Aston Villa target Ibrahim Mbaye

Aston Villa target Ibrahim Mbaye

Manchester City and Aston Villa could battle it out for Paris Saint-Gemrain’s Ibrahim Mbaye.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from France that Aston Villa have positioned themselves to sign the ‘meteoric rise’ player’.

Manchester City also join Unai Emery’s side to try and bring him to the Premier League in the summer.

The France-born Senegal international is a product of the Ligue 1 winners’ academy and Luis Enrique handed him his first team debut in 2024.

He managed two goals and four assists in 1,358 minutes from 37 matches, of which 992 minutes are from 25 matches this season.

The winger’s Ligue 1 stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 19

Starts: 9

Total minutes: 837

Minutes per game: 44

Goals: 1

Assists: 2

Manchester City and Aston Villa keen

The 18-year-old’s limited role at PSG hasn’t stopped the English clubs from looking at him.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who report both Manchester City and Aston Villa have shown ‘concrete interest’ in Ibrahim Mbaye. The newspaper mentions this in a report focusing on his situation at Parc des Princes.

Since returning from AFCON in January, he ‘virtually disappeared’, playing six matches for PSG, failing to score or assist in any of them. He played three minutes in the Champions League and wasn’t even in the squad during the league defeat to Lyon last weekend.

Luis Enrique indicates it’s a sporting decision not to utilise Mbaye regularly this year while PSG insisted high level of competition for his omission from the squad to face Lyon.

On the other hand, the report indicates his ‘contribution and involvement were deemed insufficient’.

L’Equipe state: ‘Mbaye hasn’t been criticised for any off-field shortcomings. Unlike one or two young players who turned professional this season, sometimes reprimanded by veterans (Vitinha, Ousmane Dembélé…), Mbaye believes his commitment in training is similar to his previous level.’

Within his camp, confusion persists and there’s a ‘clear distrust’ regarding PSG’s handling of his situation.

L’Equipe specifically ask whether Manchester City and Aston Villa’s concrete interest would have influenced PSG’s decision makers.

Responding to their own question, the newspaper state PSG rejected this ‘theory’. Either way, the player’s future needs sorting in the summer.

Contract, value and agent info

Ibrahim Mbaye has a contract until 2028 and Transfermarkt value him at €30m.

London based agency Golden Gate Group are representing the PSG player, and Chelsea star Reece James is in their client list.
